Thanks for the ideas. By the way, how does a shielded phone cable look like? Never seen one here. Even the lines that the telephone company is using seems to be unshielded.
The stuff I have is: round,blue,with a tight plastic jacket if you open it there is a foil layer which is the shield inside the foil layer are the red and green phone wires Do a google search for "shielded phone cable" and get some from a supplier near you. Radio Shack used to sell it. The telephone lines up on the poles are generally not shielded because the "EM fields" drop off very rapidly about 3 to 6 feet from a source.....so they are "above it all". I would keep the lightening protector, but I think an led indicator might cause line noise. What about using an external modem with "indicator leds"? -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
