Yuor DVD drive might be up $hit creek mate. I have a SONY DVD drive that never worked well in windows, worked for playing DVD's in mandrake and now is very stubborn in SuSE - and i know that mine is screwed... so try using it in another OS and see if it works there. Tim.
New 8.2 install with mostly default settings
/etc/fstab says: (written by install)
/dev/dvd /media/dvd auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0
File manager sees /media/dvd
Desktop icon for DVD says under the properties section:
Device: /dev/dvd {Drop down list shows: /dev/dvd (/media/dvd) } Mount point: /media/dvd
Trying to mount as root gives: Error - KDesktop | could not mount device | the reported error was: MOUNT: special device /dev/dvd does not exist
Trying to mount as user jejohan gives the same error
Trying to mount as user dcjohan results in a mount but reads nothing
Mounting as new cdrom-cdr mounts and reads but I've written nothing to /etc/fstab and install did not provide any such desktop icon, I added it.
Anyone have any idea as to what is occurring here?
