This is exactly why I want to use a vanilla kernel. None of my hardware is in any way special or require special drivers - everything supported by the vanilla kernel. I have the source for vanilla 2.4.20 and don't see the need to pull a newer one through my dial-up.

I tried downloading a mantel kernel once (With SuSE 8.1). It kept timing out somewhere close to the end, and the server just wouln't let me resume - grand waste of money.
I don't know if it's your case, but I've given up using ftp.suse.com, and use a local mirror. Performance and reliability is _much_ better -- I assume simply because ftp.suse.com is busy all the time. Jason
