If IBM switches to linux will this really matter?
That would be very improbable, I think. According to an article in IEEE Spectrum (News Analysis / Linux's Challenge to Unix / Jun 2003), "Nicholas S Bowen (SM), vice president of Unix and xSeries software development at an IBM unit in Austin, Texas" [...] "Bowen argues that AIX, IBM's proprietary Unix, can be developed in concert with improvements in IBM's hardware, in contrast to Linux". They have things like "redundant power supplies, error correction, and fault isolation, just aren't done as much in the Intel world". -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
