Since setting up my printer with the CUPS system, StarOffice will not print, and neither will abiword. What do I need to do to get these to work with CUPS? When I try to install other programs (non-related) Yast says there is a conflict with CUPS and LPRNG.
What SuSE distro are you running?
Thanks for your reply. I am running 8.0, pretty vanilla.
Did you get rid of the old LPR stuff before installing CUPS? CUPS uses the same names, but different software for LPR... so that applications can stll reach printer routines.
No, I did not remove old LPT stuff first, but tried to do it later. Removed the Lprng program but maybe not everything else. I have now seen one error message saying that the printing process saw both and therefore could not choose. What else should I remove?
BTW, up to 8.1, I found that the CUPS browser interface did the nicer printer setups than YaST. With 8.2, YaST seems to work better than the CUPS that comes on the SuSE DVD.
I only used the YaST setup. I will look into the CUPS as soon as I get the interfering stuff removed. Thanks for your assistance. Richard
Should I do something about this or ignore
it? Thanks for any help. Richard
