I have suffered from the same problem. I believe it is the fault of the NVidia drivers. I use the 4363 drivers, and the problem _seems_ to be resolved. The drivers get updated fairly frequently What happens is that the X server becomes locked - possibly because of a race condition somewhere. I know because when this happened, I logged in from my spare computer ( the two are networked ) and shut down all processes one by one to find where the problem lay. Only a drastic 'kill -9' would stop the X server, and that left the system in such a state that a reboot was unavoidable. Hope this helps Basil Fowler On Monday 16 June 2003 19:07, George Reynolds wrote:
I'm using the latest Nvidia drivers and sometimes, when i'm switching between consoles or even when I am logging out/back in again, the mouse/keyboard lockup causing me to have to restart. the alt+sysrq doesn't work, but the computer hasn't actually crashed- for example my news ticker continues scrolling and kmail still pops up with new emails.
Any ideas why this should occur? I've done a clean SuSE 8.2 install..... I have not changed my configuration from the default- do you need to change something when you install the nvidia drivers? I just configured sax2 as suggested.
thanks George
