Let me just confirm that that worked nicely for me too. I always had very poor quality playback of dvds, and never really thought I'd get to the point where it'd be worth watching... but now I'm a happy camper ;) Got the rpms from packman.links2linux.de, set ELEVATOR_READ_LATENCY to 64, and off it went.
