Stefan.
Have you done any benchmarking? Even just copying over a large amount of data?
I did something very similar to your process a couple of weeks ago when I first connected my OS-X box to SuSE 8.2
It worked fine, but it was awfully slow. Maybe you have better options than I did.
I just did the math and I think a 100 Mbit/Sec connection at 100% efficientcy should do about 36 GB/hr.
I'm only getting around 3 GB/hr with NFS writes from OS-X to SuSE 8.2 (default kernel). ie. less than 10% efficient.
I have done other NFS write testing to SuSE 8.2 (default kernel), and it seems to always be similarly slow.
Samba on the other hand is much faster, but I have to have "*" supported in file names for my app, and samba does not do it.
I am going to try some nfs tuning tonight. (Never done that, will have to do some googling.)
Thanks Greg
Also check if you have a hub or a full duplex switch. Even a cheap switch will not give you full bandwidth. Ken
