How do I add a second IP (eth0:1) to a NIC in the new SuSE 8.2, using yast
I could not find a way either to set an alias IP address in yast.
So, what I did was to go into /etc/sysconfig/network and make a file called ifcfg-eth0:0 (or whatever eth0:x) and I put this in there. This makes it permanent upon any boot.
NETMASK=255.255.255.0 BOOTPROTO=static DEVICE=eth0:0 IPADDR=whatever address you want to give here. GATEWAY=your gateway TYPE=Ethernet #ONBOOT=yes STARTMODE='onboot' USERCTL=no NETWORK=192.168.0.0 (or whatever your network is) BROADCAST=192.168.0.255 PEERDNS=yes
This method is wrong in 8.2.

It has been working fine, without error, but thank you for the URL for the correction. I will make the changes as Christopher suggested in that email... I have just come back to SuSE from a relatively long "stint" with RH. This is one of those subtle varices... I appreciate the link Kastus...
Why was this removed? It almost seems more confusing this way as it doesn't have a unique interface, virtual or not. Along with that, scripts would have to be changed to reflect new IP addresses. I ask because a couple servers in our office make use of these virtual interfaces. -- Greg Macek | Senior IT Manager Marketing Resources, Inc. it-guy@mrichi.com | http://www.mrichi.com
