With 8.0, one had to open a konsole and make the screen large enough, then use alsaconf. Alsa said specifically *not* to use YaST2. Maybe you can try it and see if alsaconf will do the trick. It'd be nice if it did, because there's no way I couldn't have no sound. Make sure to su, then just type alsaconf and you'll get prompts.

Opened up a shell, typed su-, and ran alsaconf which said it configured the on-board sound which it found with no problem, ran a wave file which I could not hear, said all was configured perfectly and to go enjoy my music. No such luck. Also tried loading the configuration programs all of which said everything was fine, played with the volumes and once again checked to confirm nothing was muted, nothing was/is, and still no luck. This is becoming a most interesting and challenging problem. ;-) dave -- David C. Johanson Linux Counter # 116410 Powered by SuSE Linux 7.1
