If you switch from kdm to gdm (variable DISPLAYMANAGER on file /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, then run suseconfig), there are problems at bootup, and runlevel changes. In fact, changing from runlevel 5 to 3 does not kill the graphical login, gdm. Solution: In file /etc/init.d/xdm change the line gdm|GDM|Gnome|GNOME) DISPLAYMANAGER=/opt/gnome2/bin/gdm ;; to: gdm|GDM|Gnome|GNOME) DISPLAYMANAGER=/opt/gnome2/bin/gdm-binary ;; because /opt/gnome2/bin/gdm is an script, and the pid will not match. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
