===== --------------- indonesian newbie Set the permissions on all /usr/bin/my* file to root.mysql and all /var/lib/mysql files to mysql.mysql. Confirm you have a group mysql in /etc/group. Run /usr/bin/mysql_install_db then "/etc/init.d/mysql start". That will start the server. Then try mysql --user=mysql which with luck will start the client without any passwords. You should set a password. chmod 700 /var/lib/mysql/subdir (aka databases) and the files under them to chmod 660 (aka tables)
If any other mysql files are in a strange location change them to root.root And learn about phpMyAdmin to admin the files - very handy web based tool. Also go spend $40 US and buy a book on MySQL. It is not a trival setup. -- 73 de Donn Washburn __ " http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 a MSDOS Virus "Free Zone" OS Email: n5xwb@hal-pc.org Info: http://www.knoppix.net
