Well, subject says it really. Now that I've replaced my DVD only drive with a CDRW/DVD drive (hdc, and /dev/cdrom is linked to hdc) I can't play music CD's.
Although, I'm not sure I ever tried even with the old drive now that I think about it. kscd seems to think the drive is "ejected".
Any ideas? I'm certain I don't need to mount a music cd, right?
thanks!
Ok, unless your running 8.2 (and your not - some programs newer versions in 8.2 read ide/atapi device). Then the cdrw/dvd most likely needs to be /dev/cdrecorder--->/dev/sr0 (or /sg or /scd0, I have no problem with /sr0). The reason I say "most likely" is because I don't have a cdrw/dvd combo drive - - so this may be a little more envolved due to the DVD part. Anyway, rm the /dev/cdrom and the ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrecorder and then give your user account the need parmission sets. lrwxrwxrwx 1 crrey disk 3 2003-01-10 12:43 /dev/cdrecorder -> sr0 brw------- 1 crrey cdrecording 11, 0 2002-10-14 09:53 /dev/sr0 Thats' what mine looks like. SuSEconfig keeps changing the permission sets on /dev/sr0, and sometimes the user account will have trouble using the rw functions, depending on which program you using for burning. As far as the DVD component of the setup I am not experienced yet, since my upgrade to DVD is a few weeks off :-/ . But there have been a couple of threads about it to be sure and others will most likely have more info. Also, the module ide-scsi should be loaded (at boot perferrably). If your using grub, make sure that the line "hdX=ide-scsi" is in the boot menu.list file (X = the drive letter). E.G: ^^^^^^^ title linux kernel (hd1,10)/vmlinuz root=/dev/hdb12 ide=reverse hdd=ide-scsi vga=791 initrd (hd1,10)/initrd You can do this by going into YaST and adding the line with the "sysconfig" editor and YaST will take care of the rest (i.e. mk_initrd command. etc...) under the section for boot modules (aka . initrd_modules). You can just put initrd in the search field and you recognize it the one you want (3 results pop in the window for me).
