Didn't help, I'm afraid. In case it's helpful, the result I'm seeing is this: http://www.xl-cambridge.com/egc/Screenshot.png Gpdf is on the left, acroread on the right. As you can see, gpdf gets the character glyphs completely wrong. This pdf file was produced by piping MSWord print through ps2pdf (the only way I could get cxoffice1 to print on my system).
