Thanks to Jason, I now have my Cd writing running fine. Now for the next step.
I need to ability to burn data DVD / DVD-RWs for backup purposes. Although I see the description as "Universal CD and DVD burning applicataion", I don't see how to configure it for burning DVD / DVD-RWs.
Is this the right tool for this? If so, how is it configured to Burn DVDs? If not, what is the right tool?
A quick googling brings up: http://www.nongnu.org/dvdrtools/ For a fork of cdrtools http://www.fokus.gmd.de/research/cc/glone/employees/joerg.schilling/private/... For cdrecord-prodvd , from the author of cdrecord. Not _free_ software though, but free (as in no cost) for private use. It looks like the latest xcdroast http://www.xcdroast.org works as a GUI with cdrecord-prodvd as a backend. In the past, when I've been struggling with CD recording, XCDRoast has worked a lot better than the KDE offerings of the time -- it's not pretty, but it works. Looks like DVD writing is in a similar position to CD writing was three or four years ago. http://www.xcdroast.org/xcdr098/README.ProDVD.txt discusses DVD writing. Good luck! Jason, who one of these days just might get a DVD writer....
