suse 8.2 live eval and intel 830

suse 8.2 live eval and intel 830 I can get the setup for the live eval running on my laptop in 1024x768; testing the x server fails in anything over 1024x768x8bit. Is this because the live eval didn't find a suitable config to save setup info to? Or am I still having problems with xfree86/i830? Too bad live eval only has KDE and not Gnome2.
