Subject: [SLE] Firewire & USB in 8.2
Upgrading to 8.2 appears to have been a bad move. I have a desktop pc with
USB2 and Firewire add-in cards. Both worked fine under 8.1. Under 8.2, the
interfaces have been detected but not the attached drives. The USB2 is a
Freecom 60GB hard drive. The firewire is an Iomega Peerless 20GB drive.
The usb and firewire modules have all been loaded in accordance with SuSE's
and various linux specifications.
Can anyone point me to any troubleshooting tools to get SuSE 8.2 to
recognise the drives?

I think by default, ACIP support is switched on when installing Suse 8.2.
By disabling all Power Management and setting the option "Plug and Play
Option" to "NO" in bios AND selecting "Installation - No Acpi support" when
installing Suse, both the firewire and usb devices were recognised without
loading modifing and configuration files.
The on-board LAN card was not reconised before either. A network card was
inserted in the pci slot and this was not recognised either. After
switching off ACPI, both cards are now recongnised. :):)
Please bear this in mind when installing Suse.
