Hi, After some postings and more hunting I came to the conclusion to drop the default imap server on Suse. I used the cyrus-imap shipped on the 8.1 pro CD. I did not do anything with cyrus (cause I do not know how to configure it ) but then I saw the following in the log file as I tried to authenticate the IMAP user Apr 11 11:37:51 lancer master[26152]: about to exec /usr/lib/cyrus/bin/ctl_cyrusdb Apr 11 11:37:51 lancer ctl_cyrusdb[26152]: checkpointing cyrus databases Apr 11 11:37:51 lancer ctl_cyrusdb[26152]: DBERROR db4: /var/lib/imap/db/__db.001: Permission denied Apr 11 11:37:51 lancer ctl_cyrusdb[26152]: DBERROR: dbenv->open '/var/lib/imap/db' failed: Permission denied Apr 11 11:37:51 lancer ctl_cyrusdb[26152]: DBERROR: init /var/lib/imap/db: cyrusdb error Apr 11 11:37:51 lancer ctl_cyrusdb[26152]: done checkpointing cyrus databases Apr 11 11:37:51 lancer master[19160]: process 26152 exited, status 1 Apr 11 11:38:08 lancer master[26154]: about to exec /usr/lib/cyrus/bin/imapd Apr 11 11:38:08 lancer imap[26154]: executed and the client which is trying to authenticate just hangs !! Did not find that doc on the RH site perhaps it is embedded somewhere.. :-( TIA Vishal Raúl Gutiérrez Segalés wrote:
I have a rather freaked out config here.
i) I run a mail server and IMAP on a 7.2,
ii) I run LDAP on another 8.1 server
What I want to do ------------------ I want to authenticate my MAIL(IMAP) users on 7.2 from the LDAP server running on the 8.1 Server.
a. Is it possible ? b. If yes then how ?
Yes, Red Hat actually has it very clearly take a look at the reference guide(somewhere in Red Hat`s site), the trick comes through PAM I belive... give it try and mail me if you cant get it up and running..
BTW, what brand of IMAP server will you be using?
Any help would be really appreciated, I have done the hunting on the web for the same, no one got it actually working on SuSE there were some who got it working on RH but they did not remember what was the magic cookie.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers Vishal K
