Thanks for all the help! xgamma did the trick, and was surprisingly easy to use. (I don't have KDE 3.1 yet.)
Just a note on xgamma and kde 3.1/3.1.1. I have just updated my kde from 3.1 to 3.1.1. The source of my 3.1.1 directory was the one from the kde.org site specific to SuSE 8.1. I realize that others are still using earlier version of SuSe other than 8.1 and as of yet I have not seen any viable 3.1.1 (or complete 3.1-x) packages. However, for those that are running 8.1 the kde 3.1.1 updates I have installed are far more well rounded and behaved IMHO/experience. The KDE Kcontrol for xgamma in both 31. and 3.1.1 is very easy to use and will write to the XF86Config as well. This is a nice feature, and in 8.2 not only will xgamma be accessible in the KDE environment but switching resolution outside of using the "crtl-alt-+/-" keys will also be available in the kde gui as well. This combination makes a very nice pair IMHO. One can control both the res amd the gamma in the gui outside of the command line. In my experience this made tweaking/customizing the gui very easy and quick, just a click or two of the mouse and you have complete control of these variables. Of course for the command line faithful these can be manipulated in the traditional manner. But, for those that are inclined to iconical control sets I am quite pleased with this state of development. On a side note, related to the level of user friendly device developments, control and drivers for such things as joysticks, gamepads, and multimedia keyboards is coming along as well. I have both a Logitech Wingmane Extreme 3D joystick and a Belkin Nostromo N50 game controller. The joystick contoller/drivers are native kernel drivers and are a snap to setup. The Nostromo N50 game controller is a 3rd party driver set that needs to be made and configured, but is workable and affords one more device to the host of growing and function accessories to the Linux user. As far as multimedia controls/key. Right now I'm using a 3rd party program Lineak/Klineak that makes it possible to set the multimedia controls. Though not perfect, and it works better with some kbd's than others, it is nice to have "one" button access to the browser/email program, cdplayer, etc... I just thought I would sound off on my observations about the state of the Linux gui/driver/controller interface and development. It's nice, in roughly 3 years, to see the level of development in Linux grow - in some case at a seemingly expotential rate. I imaging in a year or so I will be able to put SuSE on my mothers computer and she will have little or no problem using it in the least. (Linux is on the verge of surpassing M$ in the Grandmother test arena IMHO). Just a Side note. Cheers, Curtis. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+f11E7WVLiDrqeksRAulXAJ9lJbjZf3KJT2hLZHPFkjHF7VNxqwCfXVPz rPoF5iFQi2jVnF9c8Zaveg0= =OrmV -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
