I heard that you can use shapecfg to limit bandwidth on eth0. I'd like to limit bandwidth to the whole computer to prevent it from soaking up ridiculous amounts of bandwidth and saturating my T1.
This is usually done using tc from the iproute2 package. E.g., to not allow eth0 to use more than 256Kb/s: tc qdisc add dev eth0 root tbf rate 256Kbit buffer 200kB limit 100kB There's much more you can do with this, see http://www.fibrespeed.net/~mbabcock/linux/qos_tc/ -- -ckm
