Hi
I tried thee above two methods on my 8.0 machine: [home]$ rpm -q glibc glibc-2.2.5-158 [home]$ rpm -qa | grep glibc glibc-2.2.5-158 glibc-i18ndata-2.2.5-158 glibc-locale-2.2.5-158 glibc-devel-2.2.5-158
I also ran "pin" which I use (in addition to "locate") all the time: with the following results: [home]$ pin glibc [home]$ pin 0.25 - package info for glibc
------------------------------------------------------------------ *** rpm info ------------------------------------------------------------------

Three ways with three different results ---
No - it's three ways with one result. You use glibc Version 2.2.5. The release 158 means it's the 158ed build of glibc since it's first release in version 2.2.5.
and yes, i have heard that "glibc" is going through some re-visions as shown on the "change logs." HTH ~Gar
