Hello, everyone.
I am planning to add a USB card to my old IBM PC Server 704 in order to hook up a new printer to it. Ideally, I would like a card with 4 or more ports instead of just two. Does anyone have any suggestions for cards available in the US that will work with SuSE 8.1 Pro ?
<snip> Based in the UK, I am not sure if this hardware is available in US. The Freecom external harddrive with a USB2 interface came with a USB2 card using a NEC chip. The card has two ports. Looks very similar to the Beklin card which also has a NEC chip. The card was slotted into a spare PCI slot, hooked the drive and all was well. The hardware scan and hotplug packages which are installed by default shoudl be running to detect the nw hardware. Use the command "fdisk -l" for information on what the devices are cllaed if they are storage devices. Then use the mount command to access the device. I do not have experience of other usb devices. As regards firewire, follow the same procedure. However, the pc here does not always recognise the drive. After some research, the "boot.local" fiel had to be modified to load some modules. After this, the drive worked. Let me know if you want details of modifications. LW99. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
