Hi Magnar, Right click in the xmms and choose "Play adress" and write i.e. /dev/dvd. Worked to me. If you want to play a music CD that is. It did work with /dev/cdrom as well (another device though). Regards, Thomas
Someone mentioned problems with playing music CDs. Well, my music CDs apparently wouldn't play, or to be spesific: They played (in xmms, KSCD etc), but no sound emanated from the speakers. Then I found out that I could hear the CD music IF I PLAYED mp3's SIMULTANEOUSLY!
In other words, in order to listen to a music CD I would have to do the following: - Start XMMS, set it to play an mp3 file, turn its volume down (or even mute it in Kmix) - Start KSCD, turn up the CD volume in Kmix (for some reason the KSCD volume control doesen't work) Stopping or pausing the mp3 playback leaves the CD audio playing for about 5 seconds.
Now, my sense of logic (which is no substitute for solid knowledge on how things work, unfortunately) tells me that there is some sort of feedback mechanism here that isn't working properly - that the sound drivers doesen't "realize" that the CD is playing, and that the mixer doesen't "realize" that I adjust the volume control on KSCD.
Anyone else experiencing the same? Even better, can anybody out there enlighten me about how to fix this?
