When I had 8.0 installed, the monitor would actually turn off after the 30 minutes of inactivity. Now, after installing 8.1, it never turns off. There were no BIOS changes between installs.
What is going on here?
Look in your XF86Config (/etc/X11/XF86Config) and search for the 'OPTION "DPMS"' I'm betting there isn't one there. You can modify the file to add one.
OK, checked and it was not there so I added it. However, before doing so, I ran xset -q and this was returned:
# xset -q ... Screen Saver: prefer blanking: yes allow exposures: yes timeout: 0 cycle: 600 ... DPMS (Energy Star): Standby: 600 Suspend: 1200 Off: 1800 DPMS is Enabled Monitor is On ...
I've always found that the DPMS Option is needed in the XF86Config... never played with the other commands.
So, is it strange that while the option was not there, it seems to have been set up for powersaving mode? Or does the option have to be there to actualy cause the powersaving to take affect?
