When I installed 8.1 (fresh install, not upgrade), I chose KDE. However, I occasionally like to log in with different window managers (started with KDM), just to see how I like their look, feel, and themes. Today, I tried Icewm. After flipping through various themes for a while, I started Balsa to look at my mail. (I chose Balsa because: a. it was right there in the menus b. it would not start up any KDE framework, as KMail would) I read a couple of messages and then clicked a column header to change the sort order. Balsa froze. I eventually killed it with xkill. Then, I tried to play with screensavers. I happened to click Ant, and then could not escape the config window. The Ant thumbnail kept running, but I could not close the app or even move the windows. I was, however allowed to move to one of the other three desktops and activate the menus and attempt to kill the process. When the screensaver config process died, so did X. I logged in again and all looked ok for a while, but eventually an app got stuck in neverland and I exited. I started KDE3 and it seems fine. I have not rebooted. I've previously run GNOME2 on SuSE 8.1and had no such problems. Does Icewm need some special config to run safely and with stability? Did I affect it in any way by originally choosing KDE as my preferred environment? /kevin
