Hi, I installed SuSE 8.1 via NFS on the following PC: Supermicro P4DCE+ motherboard, 2 x 2.4 GHz Xeon, 2 GiB RAM, 120 GB HD. The built-in network card (Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100], e100 module) worked OK during the installation (which uses uniprocessor kernel) but didn't work with the SMP kernel on SuSE 8.1 CDs. I had to upgrade the kernel to k_smp-2.4.19-163, then it worked OK. I had problems with the k_smp-2.4.19-68.i586.rpm kernel before. My conclusion is to perform the kernel upgrade on SMP machines as soon as possible. I think the SDB should be updated to warn people about possible problems with the default SMP kernel. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
