Good point, but I have not experienced any crashes or anomalous behavior since updating to it on 20 Dec 2002, so I would say that it is stable enough for my purposes (touch wood:-)
Sorry for the personal email, but thought it best. IIRC, you have the -167 kernel. I just downloaded it a few days ago and found it still had a patch that broke ppp for me.
Thanks for the heads up, but I use ppp as seldom as possible -- my ISP allows me to direct dial to their shell account server. There is no ppp overhead, no chance of a cracker accessing my home system, and as long as I am only interested in text, it is like having an ethernet connection to the Net -- web pages load instantly, and ftp and irc servers give much better service as well.
