Hello!
Thank you for your answer!
But, well, that wasn't it. However, I did find the problem: it's a
stupid one. Yast forgot to create a tmp directory under /var/spool/cups,
so GS was aborting while processing the file. That's probably the
dumbest bug I've seen - at least in the last 24 hours... :-)
Anyway, problem solved!
Best regards,
Afonso Infante.

Yesterday I installed SuSE 8.1 on a PC from scratch (no upgrade) and although the printer was readily detected by the initial automatic setup I have a very weird problem with an HP 970C that is connected to it via USB:
Whenever something is supposed to be printed, nothing happens. Nothing. Nada. For example, if I try to print a test page from Yast2, I get this on the log file:
I [12/Jan/2003:23:05:25 +0100] Job 4 queued on 'lp' by 'root'. I [12/Jan/2003:23:05:25 +0100] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstops (PID 3493) for job 4. I [12/Jan/2003:23:05:25 +0100] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/cupsomatic (PID 3494) for job 4. I [12/Jan/2003:23:05:25 +0100] Started backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb (PID 3495) for job 4.
I also have 8.1 w/970C and have also had problems on occasion where the job is reported as started but never seems to be delivered. I have found that: 1. kill the print-job with kprinter/or xpp or ?? 2 turn the printer off physically 3. restart cupsd 4. restart printer w/o paper 5. kill the print job at the printer 6. reload paper 7. set printer active 8. print the job again Long and involved, but _usually_ solves the immediate problem. I do not know what _causes_ the problem. -- Patrick Shanahan http://wahoo.no-ip.org Registered Linux User #207535 icq#173753138 @ http://counter.li.org -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
