I just noticed I have multiple entries for these two devices in fstab. I'm not sure how they got there, and I'm not sure which ones to remove.
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 /dev/dvd /media/dvd auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder auto noauto,user,rw,exec 0 0 /dev/cdrom1 /media/cdrom1 auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 /dev/hdc /media/cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 /dev/sr0 /media/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0
Remove the last 2 lines and set the cdrecorder to "ro". It will make your fstab invariant to CD unit transformations (and, according to Noether's Theorem in theoretical physics, you will get a conserved quantity.) -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
