Well I tried all of what you have said ... Still it seems as nothing seems strange in messages file. Tried from the Terminal window & from alt+f2 neither glean anything. Dre ... linux:~ # tail -f /var/log/messages Jan 10 08:44:40 linux gconfd (funky-1194): starting (version 1.0.9), pid 1194 user 'funky' Jan 10 08:44:40 linux gconfd (funky-1194): Failed to load source `xml:readonly:/etc/opt/gnome/gconf/gconf.xml.mandantory': Couldn't resolve address for configuration source: Can't read from or write to the XML root directory in the address `xml:readonly:/etc/opt/gnome/gconf/gconf.xml.mandantory' Jan 10 08:44:40 linux gconfd (funky-1194): Failed to load source `xml:readonly:/etc/opt/gnome/.gconf': Couldn't resolve address for configuration source: Can't read from or write to the XML root directory in the address `xml:readonly:/etc/opt/gnome/.gconf' Jan 10 08:59:00 linux /USR/SBIN/CRON[1355]: (root) CMD ( rm -f /var/spool/cron/lastrun/cron.hourly) Jan 10 08:59:15 linux su: (to root) funky on /dev/pts/1 Jan 10 08:59:15 linux su: pam_unix2: session started for user root, service su Jan 10 09:19:57 linux -- MARK -- Jan 10 09:39:57 linux -- MARK -- Jan 10 09:40:05 linux su: (to root) funky on /dev/pts/2 Jan 10 09:40:05 linux su: pam_unix2: session started for user root, service su
Alt+F2 Type 'konsole' and press the 'Run' button. A new window will open with a command line. On the command line type 'kmail' and press the ENTER key. Then see if some errors are written on the command line. If so, see if they give you any clues to what is wrong. If you have no idé what the errors mean then post the errors here on the list.
Best regards :o)
