I have suse 8.1 with cups. Printer is a Canon BJC 4000.
I can print a test page like "/opt/kde2/share/apps/kdeprint/testprint.ps"
perfectly on full color with the lp command. However, if I try to print
from gimp, a get pages of Postcript _text_. You know:
%!PS-Adobe-3.0
%%Creator: PRint plug-in V4.3.3 - etcetera.
There is more. If I print a document in Open Office, the photographs are
printed in _very_ light ink, as if the cartridge were empty - which is
not, the test page prints perfectly, in full color with the correct
density. The same photograph prints equally bad from abiword, so it is a
printer system problem.
I have defined a new printer, using the "Foomatic + gimp-print" driver
instead: this one prints the photo ok, but the text is difusse; and it is
very slow, as it forces Hi-Q printing, does not allow normal printing -
meaning 3 or 4 minutes for a text page with a 3 cm photo (1"). The other
driver (Foomatic + bjc600) takes less than a minute, and the text is crisp
and perfect at "normal quality".
I'm going to save the doc as pdf and print it from windows... this is
disgracing :-(
If I try, as root, the web interface (hhtp://myhostname:631) I get
"Forbidden". I can, however, get to http://localhost:631. If I try the
control center (from kde), I see the printers, but configure fails with
"IPP request failed for an unknown reason" - probably for the same
reason as http. I can delete an enter new printers, however.
Ah, I solved http access: in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf:
<Location />
Order Deny,Allow
Deny From All
Allow From 127.0.0.1
Allow From 127.0.0.2
Allow From 192.168.100.2
</Location>
However, the admin tab still says "denied". Ah, I also need to modify the
"Allow" for "
