automatically using wins to resolve name

Hi, How can I tell my system to automatically use both DNS and WINS to resolve a computer name? I'm in a windows network, and I need to access computers with NetBIOS name. By adding "wins server = x.x.x.x." to smb.conf, I can access those computers with samba protocol (smb:// in KDE). But sometimes I need to access using ftp, and ftp seems to resolve computer names only with DNS. -- Verdi March --
