Thanks to Richard Bos's advice, I checked out the Apt-SuSE site, but I was kinda nervous about installing APT, so I went to the packman site (where the Apt site said the latest RPM for MPlayer was) and, with a little patience and some determination, I got MPlayer installed. (I compiled my very first source RPM to get Lame, one of the prerequisites, installed. Go me!) It works just fine, but it's kind of slow on my 450 MHz system. I'm going to try reinstalling the Nvidia drivers; any other suggestions for pepping it up? And can I expect it to be able to run full-speed on my box?
There are several options related to caching etc which can speed it up. Read the docs, they are good if a bit gauche. You might join the mailinglist...
Also, how do I access the DVD menu? I couldn't find the appropriate interface button...
