I have ImageMagick-5.4.2-96 and GNU Ghostscript 6.53 (2002-02-13). I don't understand why it is not working anymore, it used to some time ago. Last thing I did was to update KDE (via YAST2).
I've noticed the following on SuSE 7.3: $ convert /usr/share/ghostscript/6.51/examples/tiger.ps tiger.eps Unknown device: nodevice $ strace -f -e execve convert \ /usr/share/ghostscript/6.51/examples/tiger.ps tiger.eps ... [pid 26777] execve("/usr/bin/gs", ["gs", "-q", "-dBATCH", "-dMaxBitmap=300000000", "-dNOPAUSE", "-dSAFER", "-sDEVICE=nodevice", "-sOutputFile=tiger.eps", "--", "/usr/share/ghostscript/6.51/exam"..., "-c", "quit"], [/* 72 vars */]) = 0 $ rpm -qf /usr/bin/gs_x11 ghostscript-x11-6.51-159 $ rpm -qf /usr/bin/convert ImageMagick-5.3.8-19 I haven't touched the configuration so it doesn't work "by default" there.
Should I update both ImageMagick and Ghostscript?
Probably yes. Anyway, the following workaround seems to work on 7.3: $ convert /usr/share/ghostscript/6.51/examples/tiger.ps EPS2:tiger.eps But the resulting file is large: $ ls -l /usr/share/ghostscript/6.51/examples/tiger.ps tiger.eps -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 78519 Oct 1 21:16 /usr/.../tiger.ps -rw-r--r-- 1 malusek malusek 260721 Dec 27 20:35 tiger.ep The eps2eps may do the job too - I don't know. $ rpm -qf /usr/bin/eps2eps ghostscript-library-6.51-159 -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
