Can someone shed any light on what I need to do get my serial palm connection working with Jpilot and also any good newbie links to all of this mounting stuff would be great so I could get a grasp of what's going on here.
Try /dev/ttyS0 first, then /dev/ttyS1 second. It should work on one of the two settings without any other fancy dances required to get it to work. Simply following that sequence should enable it. In simple layman terms /dev/ttyS0 = com1 (serial port 1) /dev/ttyS1= com2 (serial port 2) If you have an older system, it may have a 9 pin serial port (com1) and a 25 pin (com2) port. Newer systems have two 9 pin ports. To satisfy purists, I should mention that if you want it to sync at high speeds, switch the physical connection so it responds on /dev/ttyS1. /dev/ttyS0 may give errors at the higher speeds because its IRQ (interrupt request (number)) is 4 instead of 3 (don't ask. Legacy assignments to hardware are only part of the long story and you don't need a lesson on computer design history to understand why it works better) ----- Doug
