Just installed 7.3 on an old PII and am having problems with the online update. I was able to run it once and it downloaded some yast updates. Then it told me to restart control center to get the rest of the updates. I did so and now when I choose a server from the list and start the update I get a message "File not found on server" and a message to try another ftp server. I have tried all in the list but cannot get anymore updates.
See http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/jsj_no_update_inf.html. In the past, there were problems when FTP servers were overloaded or when some maintenance was done there. It was just enough to wait in this case. Another problem is with YOU speed on old hardware in 7.3. See the following line (top command): PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND 22224 root 17 0 202M 202M 9132 R 97.8 40.4 10:56 y2bignfat The process is CPU intensive and its "size" is 202 MiB in this moment. My old 150 MHz Pentium with 64 MiB RAM cannot handle it in a reasonable amount of time. I have to use fou4s there instead (http://fou4s.gaugusch.at/). -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
