hello all, i have a Suse 8 installed, but i had problems with the file system.. It was freezing, with keyboard leds blinking.. I decided to upgrade the kernel from 2.4.18-4GB (original distribution) to the latest one 2.4.20 Kernel configuration and installation went fine, but now i have no sound !!! It seems that 2.4.18-4GB kernel uses a module named snd-via686.o for my motherboard's on board card (ECS P6VAA). New kernel uses via82cxxx_audio.o as a sound driver... So, i tried to change it through Yast, it detects AC97 Audio Controller but when of course it tries to load snd-via686.o there is no module with this name in /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound The only available modules are: ac97_codec.o sound.o uart401.o via82cxxx_audio.o I copied the old snd-via686.o to the specified directory, but when i run /etc/init.d/alsasound start i get this message: Starting sound driver: via686/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/snd-via686.o: kernel-module version mismatch /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/snd-via686.o was compiled for kernel version 2.4.18-4GB while this kernel is version 2.4.20. /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/snd-via686.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/snd-via686.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/snd-via686.o: insmod snd-via686 failed I also tried to setup my card not as a module but still no sound.. Yast works only with modules ? Can anyone help me ? -- Our MailGate Server employs the latest antivirus & antispam technology. Please report any errors to noc@sae.gr
