Hello list. I would like to update my version of SuSE 8.1 pro's version of CUPS to CUPS 1.1.17. I have downloaded the tar file and followed the accompanying installation instructions. Version 1.1.17 has some fixes that I think that would help in solving some of the printing problems our computing labs have been having. I have tried to get CUPS up and running but I have failed. I am not sure how to start the scheduler after doing a make install. I have checked etc/rc.d and "cups" does not exist for a ./cups start command. Totally without a clue for the moment. A majority of our school district printers are currently being served up to PC and Mac clients by a SMP linux box running SuSE 7.0 pro and CUPS 1.1.14, netatalk 1.4b2 and samba 2.2.6 and has held up fairly well other than a few odd things happening now and then. I took the jump from 7.0 to 8.1 and there sure is a world of difference. 8.1 is an experiment for the moment so I have some time. One thing that kind of caught me off guard was that I had to keep my install CDs around of making changes to things. Reminds me of Windows/options/cabs which by the way makes me think of another question for another time. Sorry for rambling on. Any input would be appreciated. -- Hey dad, I smell clowns. --Sydney Lucier Black holes are where God divided by zero. Silly God! --Dale L.
