OpenOffice can be installed for use by only one user (Your normal dedicatet - one user desktop home or office) or it can be installed for use by multiple users (on a central server or on a workstation used by different people at different times - shift workers or office situation where people move around a lot, but the PC's don't) The way that you install OpenOffice depends on how you want to use it. RPM installations that are distributed by a vendor, like SuSE or RedHat, normally does a core installation in /opt (like normal software). Then, when a user want to use OO for the frirst time, the user does a mini installation that installs some files in the user's home directory. The first time you use OO, it should fire up the installer for you. This is basically a networked installation. If you download the OO installation from OpenOffice.org, you have two options for installing 1) network - installs core system in /opt or somewhere 2) per user - installs whole app in your home directory. A few questions about your OO installation: 1) Do you want multiple users to use OpenOffice, or only one user? 2) When you installed OpenOffice, did you use the 'install' or the 'setup' script?
