[SNIP - loads of problems]
I guess this list recieves almost nothing but problem reports. After all it is a list for help...
I would like to be a little positive and say that apart from mozilla not being able to run java, and an incorrect modem init string, my 8.1 Pro box has had no critical flaws. It detected my hardware and has been very stable.
I have bumped in to an amazingly high number of minor problems compared to 8.0, but no showstoppers. So, things can get better, and they seem to ba somewhat more difficult to get running the way I want them to, but I have not have to give up on anything yet.
All in all I like 8.1, while I still look forward to improvements in 8.2.
Same here. I had everthing backed up, so I ended up doing a 'clean' install of 8.1 onto a 'reformatted' hard disk. Everything worked fine doing it that way -> FROM THE CD SET. I could not get it to install off the DVD at all, and after trying to do a simple upgrade from 8.0 ( which was fine except for Kylix3 - which is why I wanted 8.1 ) Linux became unbootable. The DVD simply refused to provide any system options to install or upgrade to. CD1 worked, but I did wonder if 8.1 was trying to 'change' the file system that was being used. I did not have time to play with 'why' an update failed - I'd already prepared for that having monitored previous messages and just wiped the failing hard disk and started clean <g> YOU still will not work on my local network (PROXY!), but the latest fou4s did the updates in it's usual stable way, and I have a nice stable setup NOW - next step is to load Kylix3 and see if that will now work <bg>. -- Lester Caine ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services
