That is a network designation IIRC; meaning somewhere not on the local machine as in http:// blah blah blah? or... Ive completely lost my mind , in which case all bets are off
Could be :)
The "double slash" is decidedly ugly, but it's valid. Try it. "cd //usr//lib//" will get you to /usr/lib
Well, now I have two *more* things to ponder: 1) Why would that double slash be in only the one place, within a file path, especially when my home system (the one where all that X-and-desktop mess is taking place) is the only Linux box on my network? In other words, it's not because it refers to any other machine... there *is* no other machine to refer to. At least, it appears (from your remarks) that the filespec is not corrupted), and therefore my problem is elsewhere. Of course, I now have no idea why the named file and directory were not there to be read... 2) I received (obviously) the above message from Anders, but I never received the message from Curtis, to which Anders appears to have been replying. Even worse, there are four thread-indent symbols ">" in front of the line that's quoted from me, but I don't have any record in my mailbox of the intervening exchanges. In fact, Outlook is showing me exactly four messages in the thread, in total. Does anybody see more than five messages in this thread, including (now) this one? And yet, I retain this silly hope that something will go right, today. :-) /kevin
