Yes, I have the same exact board and processor. I revolves around the Promise technology chipset. The module that needs to be loaded is the "pcd" driver and the ata/raid functions. The 2.4.18 kernel doesn't support the latest Promise MBUltra 133 IDE chipset. The model on your board is the "PCD20276" chipset and the kernel on supports the one before that. You have two choices: A) patch the kernel/upgrade to 2.4.19, or B) upgrading to version 8.1 which has the 2.4.19 kernel. Frankly, I would upgrade because not only does 8.1 have the 2.4.19 kernel but it also has a kernal that is optimized for AMD AthlonXP cpu's. Either way, one you have upgrade successfully with either solution you will need to remember to add a boot parameter. Namely, "ide=reverse" because once the chipset is reconized it will load before the default Ide0/ide1 interfaces. This is due to the speed of the Promise ide interface being read before the default ide interface. Using "ide=reverse" will fix this. An example is as follows. without ide=reverse hde hdf hdg hdh no root partition found with ide=reverse hda hdb hdc hdd hde and boot. HTH, this helps, Curtis. P.S. The price we pay for bleed edge technology. On Wednesday 06 November 2002 05:13, Vaessen, E.M.J. (Ed) wrote:
I purchased a new motherboard: the GA-7VRXP with an Ahtlon 1800+ processor. SuSE8.0 is unable to see the HD's attached to IDE3 and IDE4, though it would find them on my old BX-133RAID motherboard. SuSE8.1 finds them on the GA-7VRXP. But for several reasons I want to keep SuSE8.0 on my new system too.
I heard this problem has occured before but so far could not find any solution to the problem. Am I forced to attach the HD's to IDE1 and IDE2? An in that case: attach the CDROM and CDRW to IDE3 and IDE4? Or is it a simple a setting in the BIOS?
