What you say is quite interesting, I had no idea about /etc/java. :) Generally I get the *.bin file from Sun, run it, then move the resulting j2sdk* directory in /usr/lib/j2sdk*. After that I update the link(s) in /usr/java to point to the new dir (now I noticed a /usr/java2 dir and I did that too just in case). After that, "java -version" returns the correct version, and also "set | grep J" says that everything is installed in /usr/java. Good luck. -- mioriticus "Think of it as evolution in action."
