Hi: I am evaluating Suse 8.1 and the picture just keeps deteriorating. Konqueror crashes when clicking various items in the little menu associated with the "wrench" icon in the sidebar, or whatever it is called now. I hear that it might get better by putting in KDE 3.0.4. But it is hard to accept such bugginess in a system that should really be reaching something that can be called maturity at this point. I am a corporate desktop user here, and I say to the distributors: It's show-time here folks. Produce a useable and mature product, with at least its bugs in remote corners that won't make themselves obvious within the first minutes of using the system in the most basic possible tasks. Get your act together or else it will be very hard to convince anybody that they should replace MS Windows with this." Now today I discover that I can't copy and paste files in Konqueror like I used to be able to do. I usually keep two seperate KOnquerors running in one desktop, to do GUI file manager operations. Now when I right click on a file then select "copy" from the menu, I cannot paste the file after that! No "paste" option becomes available when I go to the other Konqueror, and in fact, within a single Konqueror this is the case. I was hoping to copy some of my directories from 7.3 on a different partition, to my new home on the 8.1 partition, but the most basic operation that I am used to performing doesn't work. I am very upset about this. It seems inexcusable. I have just convinced my boss to try using Linux to do some of his personal software development. Am I going to wind up making a fool out of myself? I'm already trying to figure out how I can tell him that as soon as he installs Linux, he has to update some of the software. But of course, I tried using YOU this morning on my home machine, and found out it is broken. Very disturbing. I sincerely hope someone can tell me there is something simple wrong here with Konqueror that I've overlooked, but any possible case other than what I am expecting to work working is horribly counterintuitive and against what I fully expect from using KDE 2.x BTW, I can drag a file from one Konqueror to the other and copy it, but using the copy/paste icons in the toolbar or in the right-click pop-up menus doesn't work. I also found the file I copied in the klipper thingy, (I think that's what it's called, the little clipboard in the panel). I tried quitting it, since I've usually operated without it in 7.3, but that didn't help. Comments or assistance appreciated. -- ____________________________________ Christopher R.
