I thought it would just be a matter of re-creating the /etc/ppp/peers/kppp file. Seems I was wrong.
Having struggled with the thing for half the night to no avail, I have now switched to using Kinternet. Suggest you do the same.

ACK!! I'm sorry, but someone had posted a fix in the news group for this. Just create a text file in /etc/ppp/peers called 'kppp' (w/out the qoutes of course), and put in it this-> plugin passwordfd.so this should get it working again...it did for me. I'm sorry I didn't tell you *and* the person who put up the workaround that it fixed it. I just got tired last night and forgot. John
