# I had 7.3 running with an HP9100 CDR-RW as slave on hdd and added a
# Plextor PX320A (DVD w/CDR-RW) as master on hdg.
#
# HP9100 was/is set as: /dev/cdrom /dev/sr0
# (/dev/hdd) /dev/cdrecorder /dev/sr0
#
# PX320A is set as: /dev/dvd /dev/sr1
# (/dev/hdg) /dev/cdrecorder1 /dev/sr1
#
# Using XCDRoast and/or KonCD I consistently make coasters trying to
# write to the Plextor drive. I do not think that I have ever made a
# good disk with R or RW media on the Plextor drive but very seldom fail
# to make a good disk on the HP drive. Reading is not a problem with the
# Plextor drive for CD's or DVD's.
#
# Do I have a configuration problem (hwinfo below) or a defective drive?
There was a thread a day or 2 ago about a new cdrecorder.
Search under cdrtools*.
I have a very similar setup under 8.0. I never got it to work until I switched their Master/Slave positions.
CD-ROM = master
DVD/CD-RW = slave
with the new cdrecorder they become /dev/scd0(CD-ROM) and /dev/scd1(DVD/CD-RW). In /dev their symbolic links appear as /dev/cdrecorder >>> /dev/scd1 and /dev/cdrom >>>/dev/scd0.
The plextor writes like a champ; HOW-SOME-EVER, I cannot access the DVD as a CD-ROM. It hangs the whole system and even C-A-D will not reboot the system.
I haven't tried it again as DVD, but I will post the results of that test.
