After placing a support call to SuSE, I was told I could make my partition size as bug as I wanted.
Actually, this is right - you can make your swap partition as big as you want. And, as you have discovered, the maximum useful size for current Linux is 2 GiB on IA32 ("man mkswap"). I know this won't help you much. I just want to stress that people are sometimes surprised when the answer answers their question and not what they want to know. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
