ps is an option you have in the print menu, as if it were a printer. Do File - Print, then you have to select a printer, and 'print to ps' should be available there. Of course you have to open the file with an apropriate editor for doing this, and you can do this on GUI with mouse clicks:-). Instead of a paper print you will then receive a file named print.ps in your $HOME And, the print to ps is present in the default printer setup of SuSE 8.0, I did not tweak anything to get this on my machine. There is lpr, which is the paper printer, and ps, and even pdf (see BUT below). SuSE 8.0 defaults to lprng, and this works w/o problem on normal HP deskjet printers, so why bother (in my case). It does not work with my new OfficeJet, but that's a different issue *grrrrr*

Is the command "ps2pd" to be piped to the previous one ? Could you please give me an example of using such command sequence with the exact syntax ?

e.g. it is: %user@linux>ps2pdf print.ps

Then you get a new file named print.pdf which is your pdf file So no real pipe. Just one operation on GUI followed by another one on the command line. You can also do 'print to pdf' on the GUI, BUT ... according to my experience this sometimes does not work properly.

It creates the post script command set as a file instead of piping it to your printer, what it would do in case you would want to print.

On Windows I can use Acrobat Dostiller to conver both a plain text file and a html file and also an rtf file to a "pfd" file. I cannot figute out whether I can do the same just "printing to ps" ....

Apart from some ugly exceptional cases, it should work. Try it.
