From: Max Webb hbwebb@citlink.net re: /dev/psaux problems, and how do I recreate missing or deleted /dev files I am a somewhat experianced Linux user, and have used SuSE Linux for the past 3 years. Yesterday I had just finished installing SuSE 8.0 on my workstation, had installed much extra linux software, and had configured and "tweaked" almost everthing to perfection. I use a PS/2 IBM scroll mouse and it had been working fine since installation time. I even had the scroll wheel working. Anyway I was had just started Sax2 to configure X and then decided that something else needed to be done first. So I killed the Sax2 window during its inital probe with ctrl-alt-esc. Then when I logged out, my mouse would no longer work. After rebooting I was imediatly taken to the text version ( yast2 (ui-ncurses-2.5.15) ) of yast2 and ask to configure or choose my mouse type. No mater what ps2 mouse I selected, my mouse would not work. I even ran sax2 again to no avail. I know I need to use /dev/psaux and had useded it before the problem with no problem. After examining the error output of SaX2, I discovered the message Warning /dev/psaux not found. After and investigation of my /dev directory, I discovered that indeed the device file /dev/psaux was missing and that there was now a /dev/psaux-disabled file in its place !!! How do I fix this problem and reenable /dev/psaux or recreate it? also I am aware of the binary MAKEDEV but do not really undestand how to use it even after reading the man page. In the the past I accidently deleted a dev file like /dev/fd0. How do I recreate /dev files ? Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated ... Thanks Max
