Hi, I had trouble with Star Office 6.0 on one of my machines, everytime I tried to do something in writer or the other apps, it shut down with an error message. My solution was to go to the pay9 directory on the ProOffice CD and install the so_base and so_en packages with 'rpm -Uvh --force --nodeps *base*rpm'. That did the trick, and now it works like a charm. Regards, Jostein

===== Hi, everyone. I just upgraded my Star Office from 5.2 to 6.0 using a CD from SuSE (compatible only with 8.0). The installation went fine, and the program works OK so far except for two problems. Any ideas on these:
1) If I have two documents open (e.g., I am editing between them) and then I close one of the two, everything is fine. However, if I only have one document open and then close it (either with save or save as), it closes Star Office. This happens every time I have one document open. Even if I just open the document and don't make any changes, when I close the file the entire Star Office program shuts down.
Is there a known fix for this?
2) I periodically do a CD backup of all my files. When I restore those files to my computer they appear as "read only." So I must manually enable each document to be able to make changes.
Using SO5.2 I could click "open" and then right click on the document's name. I'd then click on properties and uncheck the box that indicated read only. Then I could edit the document.
However, in SO6.0 when I click "open" and then right click on the document I am not given the option to select properties. So I cannot disable the write protection on the document.
The only way I have found to enable a document is to click on my home directory and then navigate through SO6.0 to the document file. Then I can reset the document properties there.
But there must be a way in SO6.0 to disable the write protect just as I did it in 5.2 -- within the SO program. Surely I should not have to go out to the home directory every time to enable a document.
Your suggestions are appreciated.
By the way, for those of you who had all sorts of font problems in 5.2 (e.g., helvetica 12 pt. letters ran together and could not be made to look right), SO6.0 has fixed that problem. Helvetica looks fine in 6.0
Thx. Gil
